The experiment was conducted from May 19, 2022 to June 22, 2022, at Balasticio, Tura Magalang, Pampanga. One hundred eighty (180) Cobb 500 Broilers were used in the study. They were distributed using a 2 x 3 factorial experiment arranged in Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Factor A represents the amount of sodium bicarbonate supplement (Al - Control, A2 - 5g, A3 - 10g) while Factor B represents the method of administration (B1feeds and B2 - water). According to the results of statistical analysis, a significant difference was observed in the individual factor specifically in the amount of sodium bicarbonate supplemented to the birds. The broilers who received 5g (A1) and 10g (A2) on their feed or in their drinking water had a significantly higher (pr>0.01) final weight, gain in weight, and average daily gain (ADG) compared to the control group. The treated groups had these results while having a comparable feed intake and water intake with the control group. Finally, in line with feed efficiency, these two groups also had significant (pr>0.05) lower FCR values compared to the control group which means the use of sodium bicarbonate improved the feed efficiency of the broilers during the dry season. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the use of Sodium Bicarbonate as a supplement during the dry season can significantly enhance the growth performance of Cobb broilers. The use of Sodium Bicarbonate supplement at the rate of 3g to 10 g is recommended to enhance the growth performance of broilers and to lessen the negative effect of heat stress during the dry season. | |
