Despite the rising concem, the non-coastal municipalities of Zambales have not been given a high priority for disaster monitoring. Hence, the purpose of this study is to conduct a hydro-meteorological disaster risk assessment in the non-coastal municipalities of Zambales. It is carried out using a powerful tool, the Geographic Information System. A descriptive design was employed to deal with the objectives of this study. The risk mode! was based on the interaction of hazard, exposure, and vulnerability. This information was gathered from existing data sources in national offices and open web sources. The results of the risk assessment revealed the barangays with moderate hydro-meteorological disaster risk. These are Balaybay and Looc in the municipality of Castillejos, along with Aglao and Santa Fe in the municipality of San Marcelino. It is due to the susceptibility of these barangays to hazards and the presence of a potentially exposed population. These areas should be the priority of disaster plans and monitoring. | |
