500 _aThe ethnobotanical and morphological data of a widely used Bakali plant, as well as the true species identification using DNA barcoding, were used as basis for proposing a new Harrisonia perforate c.v. philippinensis. The ethnobotany established its medicinal properties. The morphological characteristics were documented based on the phyc-sical anatomy of the plant sample. DNA barcoding was used to establish the true species identity of the Bakali plant. Different primers were tried to establish the best sequence and PCR profile. DNA sequencing showed that Bakali plant has 99% similarity to Harrisonia perforata (Blanco) Merr. Furthermore, based on the assessment of amplicon sizes, rbcL gene marker was the most suitable DNA barcode for identification of this plant. Complementing the molecular data with its ethnobotany and morphology, this research proposes a new Harrisonia perforata c.v. philippinensis for the identification of this widely used Bakali species found in Mt. Arayat, Pampanga, Philippines.
