MANALASTAS, ROSANT P. University of the Philippines Los Bafios. June 2011. Design and Testing of a Revolving Blade for Sweet Sorghum Stalk Base Cutter. S4ajor Professor: Dr. Delfin C. Suministrado This study was conducted to design and test a revolving blade for sweet sorghum stalk base cutter. The performance of the developed blade was evaluated in terms of cutting force, power, and quality. The tests were conducted using a test rig. The effects of blade thickness, blade rpm, and the angle of cut on cutting force, power, and quality were determined. Based from the results, the combination that registered the minimum cutting force with good quality of cut was treatment using 3 mm blade thickness at 1000 rpm and +20° angie of cut with 142.06 N. The combination that registered the minimum cutting power with good quality of cut was treatment using 3 mm blade thickness at 700 rpm and +20° angle of cut with 3322 04 W. For the cutting quality, +20° and 0° angles of cut registered the best cutting quality with no crushed stalk.
