ABSTRACT Nucup, Menchie R. May 2023. ANTI-INFLAMMATORY PROPERTY OF NANO- INFUSED Tamarindus indica AQUEOUS LEAF EXTRACT ON PAW EDEMA. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN BIOLOGY. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN BIOLOGY MAJOR IN MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND BIOTECHNOLOGY. Pampanga State Agricultural University, Magalang, Pampanga. Adviser: Aris F. Miclat, DVM, M.S. The study was conducted to assess the Anti-inflammatory Property of Nano-infused Tamarindus indica aqueous leafextract on Paw edema. The study generally aimed to know the effectiveness of Anti-inflammatory Property of Nano-infused Tamarindus indica aqueous leafextract on Paw edema. Specially, it aimed to answer the following: 1.) Is there a significant difference in the reduction of paw edema among treatments?; and 2.) Is there a significant difference in the reduction of edema among different times of collection; 1,2, 3, 4, and 24 hours? On The study used nine treatments with three replicates. Treatments used were T0 (Untreated), T+ (Ibuprofen) and T- (Formalin). In Addition, T1 was the 300 mg/L Pure Tamarind Extract, T2 were 250 mg/L Pure Tamarind Extract, T3 were 200 mg/L Pure Tamarind Extract, T4 was the 300 mg/L Nano-based Tamarind, T5 were 250 mg/L Nano- based Tamarind, and T6 were 200 mg/L Nano-based Tamarind. Results showed that the T4 (300 mg/L of nano-infused tamarind)) had observed a significant reduction in paw edema, followed by the Ti (300 mg/L Pure Tamarind Extract) over 24 hours. In addition, T5 and T6 showed significant differences at 4 vs. 24 hours. However, TO remained the same after 24 hours. Furthermnore, T- exhibit reduction of paw volume at 3 hours due to immune defense. The findings of the study showed that the nano-based tamarind leaf extract had potential for reducing inflammation induced by formalin in paw edema. The researcher recommends that further studies on anti-inflammatory properties of Nano-infused Tamarind using the bark and roots may be conducted by the Department of Health (DOH), Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD), or other agencies. In addition, other studies may also be undertaken based on the phytochemicals present in the plants.
