This study was conducted to analyze and compare the socioeconomic status and marketing of rice farmers in Candating, Arayat, Pampanga and to determine the effects of group formation on production levels. A total of 42 rice farmer-respondents were identified and they were then split into half consisting of 21 members of cooperatives and 2) nonmembers of cooperatives. A Multiple Linear Regression Analysis was used to determine the effects of group formation on production levels as well as farming experience, fertilizer and application cost, and land size. The results showed that the mean age of members is lower compared to non-members, significant at 5% level. It implies that younger rice farmers are more likely to join agricultural cooperatives. Majority of the respondents were male, married, full-time farmers, and earn below P20,000. Most of them have no difficulty in acquiring credit and rental machinery, opposite on acquiring inputs. Most of the farmers have access and are visited by extension agents while most member-respondents have access and availed crop insurance and training, the opposite for most non-members. Facilitating access to better market and crop insurance are seen most factors they consider in joining agricultural cooperatives. Farmers sold their products to bulk buyers, per sack, in full-payment, and pick-up, and buyers initiated the initial price and final price is decided by both farmer and buyer. Members have higher production level per hectare and destroyed crops, cost and return analysis showed that members have higher net profit per hectare compared to non-members which is due to members planting more seeds which they received from the cooperative. Other factors such as training may also contribute to this higher net profit. Membership in agricultural cooperatives have relationship to production level which result to a positive coefficient and at significant level. Fertilizer and application cost and land area also showed relationship to production level with a positive coefficient and at significant level. However, farm experience resulted to positive relationship but not significant. Problems encountered by most farmers are the following: lack of capital on financial aspect, low selling price on marketing, high cost of fertilizer on production, and pest in other aspects. Possible solutions recommended by them were: government support, lower cost of fertilizer and high resistant variety of seeds.
