This study was conducted at Pampanga State Agricultural University, Magalang, Pampanga from January 2020 to March 2020 to an analysis of drying characteristics of cassava chips using a solar and mechanical dryer. The drying rate, moisture reduction rate, and bed depth efficiency of the structure, operational cost, and cost of materials were determined. Statistical analysis was done using Complete Randomized Design (CRD) and Least Significant Difference (LSD) by multiple comparisons were used as a statistical method in data analysis. The grand mean drying rate of the structure was 1.54 kg/hr with treatment 2 as the highest drying rate and a mean of 1.2 kg/hr. Moreover, the grand mean moisture reduction rate of the structure was 632%/hr with the highest moisture reduction rate at treatment 2 with a mean of 9.64%/hr. For the bed depth treatment, 2 is the best for cassava chips. The total cost of constructing the structure is Php 71,674.4 with a net income of Php 54,339.43/year obtained in a payback of 1.32 years or 481.8 days. It is best to use treatment 2 to have a highly significant in terms of moisture reduction rate.
