The study was conducted at San Miguel Magalang, Pampanga from May 2021 to July 2021. Its aim was to evaluate the performance and design parameter of an automated hydroponic system for lettuce production that contained two different treatments such as coco coir and hydroton and replicated for three (3) times. Each set up of the hydroponic system contained a total of twelve (12) plants. It was performed using the Green Ice variety of lettuce. The reservoir tank area has a capacity of five (5) liters of water with a system capacity of 0.058kg/L and 0.052kg/L. Inside the reservoir tank has a 35 watts submersible water pump that lifts the water through the PVC pipe. The crop water use efficiency of the system has amount of 0.32kg/L and 0.30kg/L per set up. Height and yield of Green ice lettuce were gathered in fifth week basis. Statistical Analysis revealed that there was no significant difference at 5% level among treatments of the data gathered from first week to fifth week of during conduct of the study. Treatment | attained an average total growth of 8.18 cm and Treatment 2 attained an average total growth of 8.43cm. The mean yield of the gathered data for Treatment 1 attained an average mean of 21.92g and Treatment 2 attained an average mean of 24.17. The payback period of the system was 1.3 years or 440 days and the break-even point was 0.74 years or 330 days. The initial cost of the system per set was Php3, 365.00 with an annual net income of Php 2,384.30.
