ABSTRACT JAG LYRA DIZON COSTAMERO. April 2019. Power Relations and Student Participation in Student-Leadership Organizations in Pampanga State Agricultural University. Bachelor of Science in Development Communication. Pampanga State Agricultural University Magalang, Pampanga. Adviser: Mr Kyle Sam Talosig This qualitative research explored structure and participation in student-leadership organizations in Pampanga State Agricultural University. Using the lens of Structural Functionalism and Structuration Theory, a descriptive case study design was utilized as a data gathering tool among the six Presidents of the University's Supreme Student Council and the College Student Councils. Analyzing the data, results reflected that the organizations' structures affect participation. The leaders are using different variants of power such as: a.) system; b.) structure; and c.) practices to urge participation within organizations. Also, as analyzed with the Powercube, the organizations' power are classified to be local in level, visible in form, and invited in space. As from the participatory ladder, the degree of citizen participation is in the partnership rung. As such, to aid the organization in encouraging participation to reach their aims, suggestions for agencies, institutions, academe, and organizations were forwarded.
