ABSTRACT AN ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF CHEMICAL AND MIXED FERTILIZER USAGE OF STRING BEANS GROWERS IN STO. NIÑNO, MAGALANG: A COMPARATIVE STUDY TITLE WENDELL VINCENT CAÑAS CALMA AUTHOR ADVISER SCHOOL ORLANDO G. GUECO, Ph.D PAMPANGA STATE AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS DEGREE YEAR COMPLETED JUNE 2023 The study was conducted to determine the economic analysis of chemical and mixed fertilizer usage in Sto. Niño Magalang, Pampanga. Specifically, it aimed to: (1) determine the socio-demographic characteristics of the string beans growers; (2) identify the management practices of the string beans growers; (3) measure the net profit of string beans growers using cost and return analysis; (4) identify the problems encountered by the string beans growers; and (5) recommend possible solution to the identified problems. A descriptive structure survey research design was used in the study. The survey was administered to ramdomly sampled 70 respondents, there are 35 each from mixed and chemical fertilizer users. The result shows that most of the respondents were males, 31-40 years old, married, high school graduates, with a household size of 1-5, have a 1-20year experience in faming, and has 200sqm-I ha of land used in faning. In terms of management practices, most of the respondents did not require laborers, used silt loam as a type of soil, and used deep well for irigation. In terms of production practices, most of the respondents have a land measurement of 200sqm- I ha, their planting date was between March-August and harvesting month was between January-November, and most of them have been harvesting string beans between 50-250 bundles annually. The result of cost and return analysis shows that using chemical fertilizer was more gaining profit than using mixed fertilizer and this was supported by the result of the unpaired T-test where the result was <0.0S which means there is a significant relationship between the income of mixed and chemical fertilizer users as well as the yield. Hence, the farmers need support from the national and local government units. Policies must be implemented to greatly assist the farmers. However, despite the difficulties, the farmers are still able to generate income based on the result of the ROI of mixed and chemical fertilizer users, which consist of 420.23% and 800.21% and an annual average net profit of Php108,385.57 and Php 152,928.60 respectively.
