ABSTRACT This study was conducted to determine and compare the growth performance of New Zealand White (NZW) rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) under restricted and ad libitum feeding in order to obtain information on the feeding regimen that will be most profitable to rabbit raisers. The study comprised of two treatments: T1 (restricted feeding) and T2 (ad libitum feeding) with three replicates (3 male and 3 female) for each treatment. Rabbits in Tl were given feeds approximately 5 percent of their body weight (BW) divided into 5 feeding schedules per day and T2 rabbits were fed ad libitum. The feed intake, initial and final weight, average daily gain (ADG), feed conversion ratio (FCR), feed cost, and mortality and morbidity rates were recorded. Results showed that mean values for Tl and T2 were: ADG (33.23 and 38.01 grams, respectively), FCR (1.81 and 2.47 kilograms, respectively), morbidity rate (0.16 and 1, respectively), feed intake (1259 and 1964.7 grams, respectively), and feed cost (P44.12 and 68.85, respectively). Findings revealed that the difference in values between the two treatments in terms of ADG, morbidity rate, feed conversion ratio, feed intake and feed cost were statistically significantly different (p<0.05) indicating that ad libitum feeding is better compared to restricted feeding.
