Ove is a grumpy, solitary 59-year-old man with strict routines, firm principles, and a short fuse. He’s the kind of neighbor who patrols his block to enforce order, yells at rule-breakers, and disapproves of nearly everything. But behind his cranky exterior lies a man struggling with loss and loneliness, particularly after the death of his beloved wife, Sonja.
His life begins to change when a lively young family moves in next door. Parvaneh, a pregnant Iranian woman, her clumsy husband, and their two spirited daughters gradually pull Ove into their world—often against his will. Through a series of humorous and heartwarming encounters, they help Ove rediscover purpose, friendship, and love.
As Ove’s past is slowly revealed, readers learn how he came to be the man he is—and how the smallest acts of kindness can bring someone back from the brink.
