ABSTRACT TITLE : TRADE AND MARKET ANALYSIS OF EGGPLANT (Solanum melongena L.) IN CONCEPCION, TARLAC AUTHOR : SHAINA MAE ANGELES ADVISER : CELESTE D. GATUS, D.B.A. SCHOOL : PAMPANGA STATE AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY DEGREE : BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS YEAR COMPLETED : JUNE 2020 This study was conducted to analyze the factors affecting trading and marketing system of eggplant in Concepcion, Tarlac especially in barangay Castillo, the top producer of eggplant in Concepcion, Tarlac. A total of 13 respondents were identified in the study. The researcher used questionnaire in interviewing the respondents to acquire the needed data, where respondents are between the ages of 31 to 60 years of age. Moreover, of the respondents were males for all of the respondents were already married. The respondents' educational attainment were 35% elementary graduates, 45% high school graduates and 20% college graduates. In terms of household size, 8 or 60% have 2 to 5 family members while the other 5 or 40% have 6 to 9 family members. In addition, the length in experience of the respondents majority were 3 to 9 years of experience and the longest years of experience is 20 to 30 years. Meanwhile the capital is dependable on the transportation used by the respondents. Where it ranges between 3,000 to 30,000 pesos. Majority of the respondents' source of capital are from their personal savings. According to the respondents, their source of eggplant is in Castillo Concepcion, Tarlac were the respondents will pick-up the eggplant from the producer with the used of jeepney or tricycle. On the other side of the situation, the quantity sold being used by the respondents is per bundle which made up of plastic that consist 10kg of eggplant. The respondents deliver the eggplants to the buyer in the local markets. In terms of payment, the respondents only accepts cash transactions to avoid lending or credit of products. In addition, the respondents were interviewed about their problems encountered by dealers. One of the problems is the fluctuation of the price. The study found out that when the price of eggplant is low, they tend to get low gross sales. Another problem is climate, where rain results to the eggplants to be prone to spoilage. As a result, the dealer gets a complain to its buyer for the damaged eggplant which result to lost sales.
