Prof. Carlo D. De Dios  Women are inevitably the focus in the discourse of beauty like in the world of  beauty contests. Beauty pageants have long been a part of every culture and have evolved  into fields of cultural production, with beauty contestants serving as symbolic  representations of collective cultural identities. These identities are the result of this  phenomenon, which has resulted in various ideologies revolving in the arena of beauty  pageants. In this light, this study analyzed the language use of the Binibinis in the final  round of Binibining Pilipinas using the language function theory of Jakobson (1960) and  alternative development theory of John Friedman (1992).  This study examined how the communication takes place between the Addresser  and Addressee, how language is used symbolically, how utterances reveal underlying  power relationships, and how women empowerment through the use of Philippine  English is promoted. The results revealed that among language functions that are  present in the language use of the Binibinis (emotive, conative, phatic and poetic),  conative has the highest frequency since the Binibinis address certain social issues and  influence the audience to do something. Also, through their language use, Binibinis  addressed relevant issues about women in the Philippines such as discrimination on  Filipino women in workplaces, diserimination on Filipino women in politics and  leadership, women being sexualized and objectified, and violence against women.  Moreover, the analysis on the features of Philippine English in the stage of Binibining  Pilipinas zeroed in grammar (syntactic structure) and sounds (phonological analysis).
