Traditonal medcine plants have been a significant therapeutical source smce anceent days. This study provides vanous aspects of the Gemeline ((:melina arhovee Roxb.) m terms of tts phytochemical and antioxidant properties that contnbute to it: mehcsnal significance. Specifically. this study aimed the determination of the present phytochermcal propertes of the G. arborea leaf extract and its antioxidant properties. The screerang for phytochemicals and antoxidants used the Thin-Layer Chromatography (TLC) techmque, including using differemt spray reagents for phytochemistry and an Assay of 2-2. ~-diphenyi--1-picryl-hydrazy!l-hydrate for the determination of antioxidants in the leaf extract. The screening of phytochemical properties of G. arborea leaf extract indicates the presence of Phenols, Steroids, Tannins, Flavonoids, Triterpenes, Alkaloids, and Essential Oils. The plant G. arborea leaf also showed radical scavenging activities against stable radical DPPH identified at the Retention Factor (Rf) values from 0.0 to 0.581. Therefore, the results indicated that the leaf extract of G. arborea contained abundant phytochemicals and a source of antioxidants. The study established the baseline data for the potential of G. arborea as a source of alternative medicine with various phytochemicals and antioxidants beneficial for drug discovery. However, further studies on identifying the phytochemical constituents and their mechanisms in exhibiting certain biological activities are needed.
