ABSTRACT AXEL P. MANANSALA June 2020. OPERATIONS AND MANAGEMENT PRACTICES EMPLOYED IN SWINE PRODUTION. Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Animal Science. Pampanga State Agricultural University. PAC, Magalang, Pampanga Adviser: RICARDO D. HERNANDEZ, JR M.S.A The farm practice was conducted at Wenjo Farm, Sta Maria, Magalang Pampanga. During the farm practice, the student trainee was exposed to the actual training in swine production and management. It helped the student to know the different housing facilities, machineries and equipment used in the farm. The student trainee was also given an opportunity to identify the problems encountered in the farm and be able to suggest possible solutions to address these problems. In the farm, the workers and laborers were very competitive because once the performance of the farm was very good, they would be given an incentive from the owner. This strategy of the owner was good because it made the laborers do better just to reach the quota. They become more efficient in handling their work. In addition to this, the student was able to apply the knowledge he learned from school such as semen collection, heat detection, semen processing, artificial insemination, assistance during farrowing, tail docking, teeth clipping, surgical castration, iron injection, feeding management, vaccinations and giving medications. During the training: the average litter size at birth was 10.25 piglets; average number of still birth was 0.027; average number of mummified was 0.031; average birth weight was 1.52 kg; average weaning weight was 7.22 kg; average weaning day was 30 days; weaning percentage was 94.72%; percentage mortality was 5.28%; farrowing index was 2.33; average gestation period was 114.29 days; average post weaning estrus was 7.71 days; farrowing interval was 156.38 days; average litter size at weaning was 9.71 piglets; and lost days was 4.38 days.
