By: Contributor(s): Material type: TextTextPublication details: Magalang, Pampanga : Pampanga State Agricultural University, July 2022.Description: 65 leaves ; 28 cm. + 1 computer disc (4 3/4 in.)
Contents:
Yanga, Diane 8S. July 2022, PHYTOCHEMICAL AND ANTIOXIDANT SCREENING OF MONEY TREE (Pachira glabra Pasq.) FRUIT POD. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN) BIOLOGY, Pampanga State Agricultural University. Adviser: Ruth T. Libag, RMT, LPT, MAE Chem. This study was conducted to determine the phytochemicals and antioxidants present in the Money tree (Pachira glabra Pasq.) fruit pod. The phytochemical and antioxidant screening made use of Thin-layer Chromatography (TLC) assay using different spray reagents for phytochemicals, and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl-hydrate (DPPH) spray reagent for the antioxidant test. In terms of phytochemical screening, results showed that the fruit pod of Pachira glabra exhibited; Flavonoids, steroids, phenols, tannins, coumarins, and essential oil. On the other hand, antioxidant screening of the Pachira glabra fruit pod showed antioxidant scavenging activities against free radical DPPH, with the Retention factor (Rf) values ranging from 0.0-0.1 to 0.5-0.6. Hence, the result indicates that the crude ethanolic extract of the Pachira glabra fruit pod possesses various phytochemicals and antioxidants. These findings suggest that fruit pods from Pachira glabra may be used as potential sources for alternative natural bioactive compounds. Keywords: Antioxidant, DPPH Assay, Fruit Pod, Pachira glabra, Phytochemicals, TLC Assay.
