The farm practice was conducted at RH Farm (Brookside Group of Companies) from May 02, 2018 to June 28, 2018. The main objective of the farm practice is to expose the students to the actual and hands-on management and operations in swine production. The production inside the farm was similar to the principles and theories that are being, taught in school. The farm has its own feed mill, and the farm hires a nutritionist who formulates the feeds. The feed formulation helps improve carcass quality, milk production of sow, good back fat of sow, and other characteristics. The farm also uses auto-feeder to speed up the work of the caretaker. The farm is producing its own breeder stocks unlike other farms. The farm practiced pure breeding, which is done by mating two pure breeds like Duroc to Duroc to produce pure-bred Duroc. Aside from this, the farm also practiced cross-breeding to produce hybrid, which is done by mating two different pure breeds like Duroc to Large White. And the fl, which stands for first filial generation, have highbred vigor. The purpose of cross-breeding is to improve the characteristics of the f1, for example A + B = ABC. When it comes to medication to disease like PED, the farm does feedback method here infected and underweight piglets are collected and subsequently condemned. The intestines are collected and sliced into small pieces, The cut intestines are then mixed with a ratio that for every 1 piglet, the equivalent is 1 Liter of water. Ice is added to preserve the mixture since back feeding expires every 1 hour. Condemnation is done by injecting 1ml of disinfectant to the heart of the piglet, When it comes to mortality disposal, the farm is selling the mortality, even the placenta, the catfish grower with the price of 50 pesos per kilo.
