General note ABSTRACT Valencia, Kesia Amor M. June 2023. BACTERIOLOGICAL AND MOLECULAR HOSPITALS IN PAMPANGA FOR MONITORING AND AUDIT, Master of Science in Biology, Pampanga State Agricultural University, Magalang, Pampanga. TESTING ON HIGH-TOUCH SURFACES OF SELECTED Adviser: Dr. Michael Angelo C. Nicdao Soiled environments, particularly in a hospital setting, may cause infections not only on the hospital staff but as well as on patients and individua ls who enter the hospital, which posed threats to the community. These are known as include StaphylococCus aureus and its methicillin-resistant strain as one of the bacteria that cause this type of infection. Hence, Lhe CenLers [or Disease ConLrol and PrevenLion oullines an Program (IPC) focus on hospital-acquired infections (HAIS) which Infection Prevent ion and Control Environmental Cleaning Practices to prevent the occurrence of HAIS. Therefore, this study was Conducted to monitor and IPC- Staphylococcus evaluate Environmental Cleaning the effectiveness of Practices the against introduced aureus and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus on the high-touch surfaces of three selected hospitals in Pampanga. Four levels of evaluation were utilized: Total Bacterial Count , StaphylocOccal Count, Detection of Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Moreover, monitoring was performed before and after aureuS, and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus 24 hours of the implementation of cleaning. Results revealed that Hospital A gathered the highest number of high-touch surfaces that passed the four levels of evaluation. However, some high-touch surfaces in the three hospitals were also observed to have a passed-failed or failed-failed evaluation, particularly on the detection of Staphyl ococcus aureus and MRSA. The results may be attributed to a lack of hand hygiene compliance, hence, the effectiveness of the implementation of IPC-Environmental Cleaning Practice is inadcquatc. Keywords : IPC-Environmental Cleaning, Staphylococcus aureus, MRSA, Hospital-acquired Infections, high-touch surfaces.
