General note | ABSTRACT PRODUCTION AND MARKETING ANALYSIS OF CARABAO MANGO FARMERS IN MEXICO, PAMPANGA TITLE CRISCIA GOMEZ FLORES AUTHOR ADVISER SCHOOL ORLANDO G. GUECO, Ph.D. PAMPANGA STATE AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS DEGREE YEAR COMPLETED JUNE 2023 The study aimed to craft a strategic plan that would help benefit the farmers of carabao mango from Mexico, Pampanga, to increase their profit and improve their socio-economic status. The researcher analyzed and interpreted the data using a single frequency, percentage, and cost and return analysis. The researcher used a structured questionnaire to survey 17 respondents. The results showed that some of the carabao mango farmers had gained profits. According to the study, the carabao farmers encountered the following issues in mango production: 1) pests and diseases, 2) post- harvest disease control, 3) climate change, and 4) marketing problem. The following are the recommended solutions for the problems with carabao mango production: 1) use proper and sufficient biopesticide spraying; 2) pre- and post-harvest disease management approach; and 3) extension programs or attending seminars and understanding how to adopt resilient climate agriculture to address the effects of climate change, and 4) conduct a market study to gather comprehensive data on variations in production, consumption, distribution, and customer behavior, as well as identify the main issues that are affecting production and profit to fix the marketing issues. The majority of them shared the same production. However, a significant difference in labor costs was identified. The carabao mango growers used local seedlings, expensive inorganic fertilizers, pesticides, and insecticides. Some obtained financial assistance from informal lenders to finance their farm needs. Some had been in the business for quite some time and had acquired various farming methods and practices that were different but successful. It is recommended that the Department of Agriculture should also give attention to mango production, which has the potential for export if adequately addressed and made known to the general public, and encourage farmers to attend training and seminars to ensure smooth implementation of the mango production program. Small-scale farmers should receive assistance from programs and seminars to improve farmers' technical knowledge and methods, upgrade the water irrigation system and facilities, offer low-cost fertilizer, biocides, and pesticides, and find ways to help regulate the price of the mango in the market. |
