General note | ABSTRACT De Jesus, Nico B. May 2023. SCENARIO DEVELOPMENT FOR CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION OF FISHERFOLKS N SASMUAN, PAMPANGA: AN EXPLORATORY APPROACH. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN BIOLOGY MAJOR IN ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE. Pampanga State Agricultural University. Adviser: Gerald M. Salas, Ph. D. Scenario development is a tool that is currently gaining attention for management and policy-making since it allows for an effective forecast of potential outcomes and anticipation of consequences, especially in the context of the increasing occurrence of climate-related challenges. This study made use of a common two-part workshop which consist of nine steps. Through an exploratory approach, this paper subjected fisherfolks from both inland and coastal communities into semi-structured interviews, leaders from each barangay were then chosen to participate in workshop activities. Research activities focused on the identification of drivers that influence stakeholder adaptation choices and exploring different measures that fisherfolks could use to adapt. Results show that typhoon and flood occurrences (100%) together with overall political presence (49.09%) were the most uncertain driver of change in the community. Considering our findings, this study created a graphical framework that utilizes these drivers in order to develop multiple scenarios that describe how the current situation of fisherfolks could develop. The aim of these scenarios was to encourage stakeholder to conceptualize various adaptation strategies, stimulate engagement in the process of change, provide participants better awareness of future climate change implications, and create better prospects for Filipino fishermen and other vulnerable populations. Keywords: Climate Change Adaptation, Fisherfolks, Planning, Scenario Development. |
