General note ABSTRACT A CULTIVATION ANALYSIS ON THE INFLUENCE OF TV VIEWING ON BARANGAY ST0. ROSARIO MAGALANG RESIDENTS' CRIME RISK PERCEPTION AND ATTITUDE TOWARD THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM NICOLE JOYCE MIRANDA MANALO Pampanga State Agricultural University Bachelor of Science in Development Communication June 2023 Renz Q. Garcia Title Researcher School Degree Date Completed Adviser The study aimed to examine the influence of TV viewing on the crime risk perception and attitude toward the criminal justice system of the residents of Barangay Sto. Rosario, Magalang, Pampanga. The quantitative research method was used in the study, and a survey questionnaire was dissemninated to the 286 residents aged 45-64. For statistical analysis, the study used Frequency Distribution Table, Mean, and Pearson Chi-square. The findings of the study revealed that most of the respondents are from ages 45-50 years old, and most are females. Also, most of them are high school graduates earning below 20,000 pesos a month. In terms of their TV viewing frequency of crime and violent-related content, most watch crime and violent information on television for less than 1 hour daily. With regards to perceived crime risk, it was discovered that they perceived the likelihood of crimes (burglary/robbery, property crime/violation, physical assault, rape/sexual assault, use of illegal drugs, cybercrime, abduction, and domestic violence) in their area. Meanwhile, the findings of the study also revealed that they mostly have favorable opinions on the criminal justice system. Moreover, the respondents' socio-demographic profile has been found to be not significantly related to their perceived crime risk, attitude toward the criminal justice system, and their viewing frequency. Additionally, the respondents' viewing frequency was not significantly related to their attitude toward the criminal justice system. Meanwhile, it was found that the respondents' TV viewing frequency on crime and violence information was significantly related to their perceived crime risk. Hence, it is recommended that TV Networks, particularly TV program producers, to further practice caution when delivering crime issues to the general public. Further, it is suggested that Philippine National Police (PNP), and other law enforcement agencies, intensify their programs and agendas to ensure public safety.
