General note ABSTRACT Thesis Title: Watching Enhancing the English Vocabulary of High School Students trom Korean Dramas with English Subtitles Shikaina Ruth P s gish Subtitles Author: Adviser: Mrs. Danna Lyn P. Gonzales Generations nowadays are into technologv, and most of them are youtn or teenagers who watch Korean dramas with English subtitles even though they do not even know or understand the Korean language sometimes. According to Atanacio-Blas Erestain (2020), patronizing Korean culture and arts has escalated so high that Filipinos have been taken by the Hallyu waves, be it in entertainment, fashion, food, technology or culture. Most Filipino teenagers and high schoolers are embracing Korean culture. The demand for watching Korean dramas by adolescents is quite high, and nost of them use English subtitles (Rinekso, Lesagia, & Setiawati, 2021). This study used the combine method, or mix method, to test if watching Korean dramas with English subtitles can help high school students improve their English vocabulary. Thirty-three high school students from Magalang, Pampanga, watched four episodes to see if they would develop, improve, and enhance their English vocabulary. It also served as a test to see if the respondents had an easy, helpful, and enjoyable way to develop and enhance their English vocabulary skills. The study used pre- and post-test questionnaires to assess the English vocabulary of high school students. The survey questions determined if watching Korean dramas with English subtitles is an easy, helpful, and enjoyable way to enhance and develop English vocabulary. The study revealed that the respondents acquired unfamiliar or new words and their meanings, making watching Korean dramas with English subtitles an easy way to learn and enhance English language vocabulary.
