Formatted contents note | Organic supplements, such as Madre de Cacao leaf (Gliricidia sepium) and Papaya leaf (Carica papaya) are added to the drinking water of poultry and livestock animals as substitutes for synthetically and commercially prepared fluid supplements. These potential drinking supplements have been reported to have a wide range of beneficial effects on the production performance of birds. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of varying levels of papaya and Madre de Cacao leaf extract on the laying performance and egg quality of the Japanese Seattle quail. A total of two hundred sixteen (216) ready-to-lay Japanese Seattle quails were randomly allocated to six treatments, with 12 birds per treatment. A two-factor (factorial experiment) arranged in a Complete Randomized Design (CRD) was used in the study. Factor A indicates the two types of organic supplementation, and Factor B represents the levels of given supplements that were both mixed in quail's drinks. Results showed that the inclusion of papaya and Madre de Cacao leaf extracts made a significant difference in the egg production, hen-day production, egg weight, total feed consumed, and eggshell thickness. However, no significant difference was observed in the performance of the quails in terms of feed conversion ratio and water consumption. It can be concluded that the inclusion of papaya and Madre de Cacao leaf extract at a rate of 2.5% showed great potential in improving the overall laying performance and egg quality of the Japanese Seattle quails. |
