500 ## - GENERAL NOTE
General note Generally, the study aimed to evaluate rice trading in selected barangays of San Luis, Pampanga. The objectives were to: (1) describe the socio-economic profile of the respondents; (2) identify rice trading methods and practices of traders and farmers; (3) identify volume and prices of rice traded; (4) determine the efficiency of rice farming and rice trading using cost and return analysis; and (5) describe the problems, if any, farmers face in selling their harvest to the rice traders. Five out of the seventeen barangays of San Luis served as the sources of data. The chosen barangays were Sta. Monica, San Nicolas, San Juan, San Isidro and San Roque. Twenty-eight rice farmers and 5 rice traders comprised the sample of the study. The list of the rice farmers and rice traders were obtained from the Municipal Office of San Luis. To attain the different objectives of the Study, primary and secondary data were used. The primary data were gathered through personal interview using a survey questionnaire. Basic description statistics such as percentage and frequency counts were utilized as the tools of analysis. The mean years during which the respondents have engaged in rice farming was 28.7 years and for the rice farmers is 11.5 years. This implies that farmers and traders have a lot of experience in rice farming and in rice trading. The produced rice was mostly sold to the buyers or traders who came to the area during the harvesting season. This proved that price received is a lower than when they sold the rice to the good traders. Attending trainings and seminars can help the farmers enhance their knowledge in rice farming in order to increase production and gain additional income to support their family. With regards to problems encountered by the farmers in rice farming, those which have been mentioned are the low selling price, lack of support from the government and post-harvest losses.
