Formatted contents note | This study described the topography and gross anatomical features of the rabbit lung (Orvetolagus cuniculus). Six male and six female, island-bom New Zealand rabbits, weighing 2.5 to 2.7 kg were used. Results revealed that the shape of the lung (in situ) correlates with the shape of the chest cavity and the heart. The lung is divided into right and left halves: right lung consists of four lobes (cranial, middle, caudal, and accessory lobe) and left lung has two lobes (left cranial and caudal) separated by deep fissures. Lung morphometry mean values (mm) of maie and female rabbits, respectively were: weight (9.00042.28 and 10.83+5.56); left cranial lobe length (26.88£5.17 and 26.65+5.26), width (10.2244.705 and 12.4745.17), and thickness (2.70+1.08 and 3.9543.29); left caudal lobe length ( 32.5544.40 and 33.4045,10), width (17.8543.49 and 18.4045.344), and thickness (6.4224.61 and 5.10+2.98); right cranial lobe length (18.07£3.12 and 20.3341 1.57), width (13.7542.11 and 11.85:4.40), and thickness (2.0340.66 and 3.23+2.78); right middle lobe length (23,3043.326 and 19.7848.27), width (14.45 4,66 and 14.75£4.53), and thickness (2.53£0.88 and 3.87+2.14); right caudal lobe length (29.57£2.86mm and female); width (22.2244.42 and 20.3843.79), and thickness (5.38+0.913 and 6.4243.39); and right accessory lobe length (13.72£2.88 and 17.40+6.37), width (8.2542.47 and 8.2843.82, respectively), and thickness (1.870.446 and 2.20+1.48, respectively). Although the mean morphometric. values of the lung lobes of male and female rabbits were noticeably different, statistical analysis showed no significant difference (p<0.05). |
