Formatted contents note This study determined the topography, gross anatomy and morphometry of the liver and gallbladder of Island-born New Zealand White Rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) using 12 apparently healthy, non-descript, six male and six female rabbits weighing 2.3-2.5 kg. Liver and gallbladder topography and gross anatomy were described; morphometric values were statistically analyzed. The rabbit liver is located in the epigastric region of the abdominal cavity caudal to the diaphragm at the level of the 7th to 9th intercostal spaces. It 1s reddish brown in color, rubbery in texture and has a smooth surface. The parietal surface of the liver 1s convex while the visceral surface is concave. The rabbit liver consists of five lobes (right, quadrate, caudate, and left); left lobe is subdivided into left medial and left lateral lobes, left lateral lobe is largest and the quadrate lobe is smallest. Of the two processes of caudate lobe, the caudate is bigger than the papillary process. The rabbit liver constitutes 2 to 2.4 percent of the total body weight. The gallbladder is completely embedded in the gallbladder fossa of the right liver lobe; is pear shaped and dark green in color with average length and width of 22.346.66 and 8.75+1.90 mm, respectively. Significant difference (P < 0.05) in length and width of the left medial liver lobe was noted between the male and female rabbits but not in terms of thickness (P > 0.05). High significant difference (P < 0.05) in the length and thickness of the nght lobe was observed between the two groups. Morphometric values of the other lobes (left lateral lobe, quadrate lobe, caudate process, papillary process) and the gallbladder revealed no significant difference (P > 0.05) between the male and female rabbits, although there was slight difference in their mean values.
