505 0# - FORMATTED CONTENTS NOTE
Formatted contents note This study aimed to determine the physical properties (Weight, diameter, culm wall thickness, length, number of internodes, internode length, density, moisture content, shrinkage in diameter and culm wall thickness, color and leaf characteristics) and mechanical properties (compressive and flexural strength) of Gigantochloa atter (Kawayan Kayali), Dendrocalamus asper (Giant Bamboo) and Gigantochloa atriviola (Black Bamboo) at different ages (three, four and five years old) and different height position (top, middle and bottom). The study was conducted at Pampanga State Agricultural University, Pandacaqui, Mexico, Pampanga and Unified Geotest Laboratory, San Fernando, Pampanga from December 2019 to March 2020. The bamboo culms that were used in this study were harvested at the Bambusetum Project of the government located m Pampanga State Agricultural University. Twenty seven treatments were used in the study, which were replicated three times. Three factorial Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used as the experimental design. Based on the result of the study in terms of physical properties, the species Gigantochloa atter had the highest value in terms of shrinkage in diameter and culm wall thickness; Dendrocalamus asper attained the highest mean in terms on weight, diameter, length, number of internodes, internode length and density; among the three species, Gigantochloa atriviola has the thickest culm wall and high in moisture content. While on the other hand, based on the result on mechanical properties, Dendrocalamus Asper was the strongest in terms of compressive strength while Gigantochloa Atriviola had the highest mean value in terms of flexural strength.
