Formatted contents note | PABALATE, ALJON R., August 2021. GERMINATION AND GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF AMALTAS (Cassia fistula Linn.) SEEDS UNDER VARIOUS PRE-TREATMENT METHODS APPLIED WITH ORGANIC FERTILIZER. Bachelor of Science in Forestry major in Forest Resource Management. Pampanga State Agricultural University, Magalang, Pampanga. Adviser: LEANA S. GALICIA, R.F The study was conducted at the backyard of Pabalate residence, #349 Purok 6. Calangain, Lubao, Pampanga from March 10, 2021 to June 11, 2021 to determine the effects of various pre-treatment methods and organic fertilizer to the germination performance and growth performance of Amaltas (Cassia fistula Linn.) seeds. The experimental design was Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications of 30 seeds for each treatment. There were eight treatments used, namely: TONormal seeds without organic fertilizer (Control), T1 - Normal seeds with organic fertilizer, T2Manual nicking then soak in tap water 26°C for 24 hrs. without organic fertilizer, T3Manual nicking then soak in tap water 26°C for 24 hrs. with organic fertilizer, T4Hot water 100 °C for 5 min. then soak in tap water 26°C for 6 hrs. without organic fertilizer, T5Hot water 100 °C for 5 min. then soak in tap water 26°C for 6 hrs. with organic fertilizer, T6éHydrochloric acid for 12 hrs. then soak in tap water 26°C for 6 hrs. without organic fertilizer, and T7Hydrochloric acid for 12 hrs. then soak in tap water 26°C for 6 hrs. with organic fertilizer. Data were subjected to analysis of variance, LSD and means. Significant difference among treatments was observed for germination percentage, speed of germination, mean germination time, mean daily germination, peak value and germination value. Highest germination percentage was observed in T7 (25.55%), followed by T6 (22.22%), T2 (20%) and T3 (18.89%). These treatments showed highly significant difference, indicating that these scarification treatments were the most efficient in overcoming dormancy. The result revealed that the number of compound leaves, number of leaflets, height increment and diameter increment of Amaltas seedlings showed no significant difference among the treatments, indicating that application of organic fertilizer (composted chicken manure) has no significant effect. |
