Formatted contents note Betis (Madhuca betis) is a flowering plant of the Sapotaceae family, thriving in low-altitude primary forests and is endemic to the Philippines. The ethanolic extracts of Betis leaf and bark were subjected to phytochemical screening for secondary metabolites. The antioxidant potential of both extracts was evaluated using DPPH (2, 2-diphenyl-1picrylhydrazyl) assay. The cytotoxicity/lethal concentration 50 (LCso) of the extracts on Brine shrimp nauplii was determined after 24 hours. The anti-angiogenic activities were evaluated in vivo using the Mallard duck eggs CAM assay. Phytochemical screenings showed the presence of alkaloids and flavonoids in both Betis leaf and bark ethanol extracts. It was recorded that the free radical inhibitions of the Betis leaf and bark ethanol extracts were 93.55% and 73.82%, respectively. The results on brine shrimp lethality assay showed that the LCso of Betis leaf was 91.4 yg/mL while the bark was 87.1 wg/mL. The Betis leaf and bark exhibited anti-angiogenic activity compared to the standard. These findings bring new insights on the antioxidant, cytotoxic, and anti-angiogenic activities of Betis that may, be useful for the development of innovative treatment methods for disorders involving oxidative stress and angiogenesis.
