Formatted contents note Aquatic macrophytes like water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) and duck lettuce (Ottelia alismoides) are considered invasive because of their ability to grow vigorously and multiply rapidly when introduced in habitats outside their range. To help in control of these invasive aquatic macrophytes, utilization as alternative media in growing microalgae was explored. This study was conducted to evaluate the growth rate, protein content and chlorophyll-a of Spirulina platensis using alternative media developed from imvasive aquatic macrophytes, water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) and duck lettuce (Ottelia alismoides) extracts in indoor and outdoor process at the Pangilinan's residence, San Francisco, Magalang, Pampanga. Experimental layout of randomized complete design was used with control and 4 treatments. The cultured period was done in seven days. Results revealed that the growth rate, protein content and chlorophyll-a of Spirulina platensis were significantly affected by the application of alternative media developed from imvasive aquatic macrophytes extracts. Fermented E crassipes and O. alismoides can be used as alternative media in the production of Spirulina platensis.
