Formatted contents note With the current need to conserve energy due to energy crisis, the goal is to extend its humankind's use through responsible conservation, either in small or large scales. This fact demonstrates how much energy is consumed in a situation where mechanical energy can be used instead of direct renewable resources. Energy conservation in agricultural, manual production and performance is the most effective way. However, manual fertilizer applications is exhaustive. The invention of sprayers enabled farmers to obtain maximum agricultural output. This study aimed to design and perform the utilization of the retrofitted knapsack sprayer. It covered the preparation and the mechanics of the system to turn a wheel utilized as sprayer to the crops. There is a need to retrofit knack sprayer that can be beneficial to the laborious work of the farmers. The modification took place to contribute to the needs of the farmers for innovative technologies which is an alternative cheaper machine in producing their crops. The retrofitted knapsack sprayer is a push type designed to improved mechanization among farmers and lessen their manual labor in the field. Field testing was done to determine the actual performance of the machine and to compare its viability and effectiveness compared to the traditional method of fertilizer application in lettuce crops. The application rate of the mechanical sprayer is 84 L/ha. The theoretical capacity is 0.38 ha/hr and the effective field capacity is 0.31 ha/hr with an overall field efficiency is 81.5%. The payback period was computed at 273.56 days or 3.9 years considering the machine was utilized for 70 days annually. The break-even point is 508.82 ha. The total annual cost of the operation including total fixed cost and variable cost was P 18, 971.40, in which the initial cost is Php. 2864.00 and Average Annual Net Income is Php. 3,821.00.
