General note | The study was conducted to identify, classify and determine what ecological factors affecting the anuran tadpole assemblages in riparian area of Taqui creek and Cananaoan creek of Mt. Arayat. Collection of specimens was done by microhabitat sampling. Ecological factors were investigated and measured. Analyses of population were done using Shannon diversity index. The study recorded a total of 3 species of anuran tadpoles explored in riparian area of Taqui and Cananaoan creeks of Mt. Arayat. These species were differentiated according to oral disc apparatus and microhabitat location. The analyzed results showed that anuran tadpole assemblage seem to be positively correlated with elevation, dissolved oxygen, and water temperature. Intermediate elevation exhibited high anuran tadpole species and high elevation noted low anuran tadpole diversity. The existing water temperature and dissolved oxygen favored a high anuran tadpole species. Water pH did not directly affect the distribution of anuran tadpoles. The results showed that zero evenness and zero diversity of anuran tadpoles was directly affected by environmental interventions such as hydro period, dimension of ponds and cannibalism and competition. There is no introduced and invasive species recorded in the riparian area, it simply indicates that this ecosystem is still in good status. |
