General note This study was conducted to detect the common gastrointestinal helminths and to assess the management practices on buffaloes in Magalang, Mabalacat City and Porac.Ninety fecal samples of buffaloes (regardless of age and sex) were examined in this study. Fecal samples, 30 from each local government unit and six (6) from each barangay, were collected directly from the rectum or picked from the ground for freshly dropped feces. Collected fecal samples were stored in a cooler with a coolant and processed at the Microbiology laboratory of Pampanga State Agricultural University, Magalang, Pampanga using direct microscopic examination, centrifugal floatation technique, and sedimentation technique. Five species of gastrointestinal parasites were identified, namely, Trichostrongylus spp. (41.11%), Toxocara vitulorum (31.1%), Paramphistomum spp. (25.5%), Fasciola spp. (23.3%), and Trichuris (11.11%) spp. No cestodes were identified. Mixed infection (30%) was also established in this study. Data gathered were statistically analyzed using Pearson Chi-Square to determine theassociation of the parameters with the presence of gastrointestinal helminths. Results showed no significant association between the animal profile and access to water. However, a statistically significant association was noted between the deworming program and the presence of Trichostrongylus spp. and Toxocara vitulorum. Moreover, there was an established association between feeding management and Toxocara vitulorum.
