General note | This study was conducted to determine the most common tick-borne diseases in dogs in order to gain information and provide knowledge regarding the prevention and treatment for the diseases. A total of 100 dogs regardless of age, sex and breed but with presence of ticks or previous exposure to ticks were used in this study. Collected blood samples were processed at the site of the study using the Canivet Asian-4 VetDx Test kit. Infection with tick-borne diseases was detected in all the sampled sites. Ehrlichiosis had the highest occurrence in all the sampled sites at 52% followed by Babesiosis and Anaplasmosis at 30% and 27%, respectively. Data gathered were statistically analyzed using Pearson Chi-Square to determine the association between the animal profile and tick borne diseases infection. Results showed, no significant association between the animal's profile (size, sex, age group, and breed; exposure to other dogs; the nature of confinement; body condition score; and deworming scheme); however, statistically significant association was noted between the grooming frequency of the animal and the occurrence of tick-borne diseases infection. |
