General note This study generally aimed to gather information and record traditional knowledge and uses of the plants by "folk healers" in the environs of Mt. Arayat. The study used the descriptive survey method of research. The study made use of survey from the list down all the medicinal plants used by the folk healers. Also, this study used purposive sampling technique in selecting the folk healers. Preparation of herbarium specimen was also made in this study. There were 55 medicinal plants recorded and were described by their common names. The leaves were the commonly used part of the plants. The most common use of medicinal plants is for stomach ache, cogh and diarrhea. The most cited plants were guava, sambong, oregano and lagundi. The respondents obtained their plants from Mt. Arayat and from their backyards. Decoction was the method used to extract the juice. They generally administered the medicinal plant through drinking. Male folk healers tend to be more knowledgeable than female folk healers. Further study on other medicinal plants should be undertaken in the field of phytochemistry, microbial assay and other related studies establish scientific bases for the pharmacological endeavors.
