ABSTRACT Title PERCEPTIONS OF THE YOUTH ON ONLINE SCAMS JAMIE OLIVAREZ MATIC Pampanga State Agricultural University, Researcher School Magalang Pampanga Degree Bachelor of Science in Development Communication June 2023 Camille Rose CarlR. Mendoza, MDC Date Completed Adviser The general objective of the study was to determine the perceptions of the youth on online scams. Using a quantitative approach, 313 individuals were surveyed using a survey questionnaire. Results showed that most of the respondents are 18- 20 years old, have a family's monthly income of less than 10, 957 pesos, are high school graduates and are males. Respondents believed in the perceived severity and perceived vulnerability of online scams, as well as the intrinsic and extrinsic rewards and the response efficacy on practicing security measures against online scams. However, the respondents sometimes believed in the self-efficacy of practicing security measures against online scams. The most noted barrier on the response cost of the respondents is the lack of knowledge on practicing security measures. It was found that there is a significant relationship between the age of the respondents and their perceived severity to online scams, as well as the family; monthly income and their perceived vulnerability to online scams and intrinsic rewards in practicing security measures against online scams. As such it is recommended that the Cybererime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) and other related government agencies should conduct and intensify the conduct of communication campaigns regarding online scams, cybersecurity measures, media and information literacy.
